A flooring installation that fails does not fail immediately. It fails two or three years later — cracked grout, warped planks, tiles that rock underfoot, seams that open up. The problems trace back to decisions made before the first piece was ever laid: subfloor preparation, moisture assessment, setting material selection, and proper acclimatization. These are the steps that rushed installations skip.

Wolf Renovations installs flooring the way it should be done. We assess your subfloor, address any moisture, level what needs leveling, and select the right installation system for each material and each room. Our own crew does the work. No subcontractors, no handoffs, no one to blame but us if something is not right.

We work with all three major flooring categories: luxury vinyl plank for waterproof whole-home installs, engineered hardwood for rooms where genuine wood feel matters, and porcelain and ceramic tile for kitchens, bathrooms, and any application where durability and design flexibility are the priority.

Material types

Which flooring material is right for your space?

The right material depends on the room, the subfloor, and what you are trying to achieve. Here is how Wolf thinks about each of the three main categories.

Luxury Vinyl Plank

Waterproof, durable, ideal for slab foundations and whole-home installs

The most installed flooring across the East Bay. Handles slab moisture, installs without acclimatization, and the best products are genuinely difficult to distinguish from real wood.

  • 100% waterproof core, safe over concrete slab
  • Commercial grade wear layer options
  • Wide plank formats in 7" to 9" widths
  • Floating click lock installation, no adhesive
  • Scratch and dent resistant surface
  • Best for: whole-home, kitchens, baths, basements

Porcelain and Ceramic Tile

Maximum durability and design flexibility for wet areas and feature spaces

The standard for bathrooms, kitchens, and entryways. Large format porcelain creates a seamless, contemporary feel. Natural stone tile adds character no manufactured product can fully replicate.

  • Large format 24x48 and above options
  • Wood look porcelain plank for indoor or outdoor
  • Natural stone: marble, travertine, quartzite
  • Correct mortar and grout systems always used
  • Radiant heating under tile available
  • Best for: bathrooms, kitchens, entries, laundry
Luxury vinyl plank

LVP flooring: waterproof, durable, built for Bay Area homes

Most installed flooring in the Bay Area

Luxury vinyl plank has become the dominant flooring choice across the Bay Area for good reason. It is 100 percent waterproof, scratch resistant, and available in wood look designs that are increasingly difficult to distinguish from genuine hardwood at a fraction of the cost and with minimal maintenance requirements.

For the slab foundation homes that make up most of Pleasant Hill and Concord's housing stock, LVP is particularly well suited. It installs directly over concrete without the acclimatization requirements of real wood, and its floating click lock installation means no glue, no nails, and a clean finish that handles the minor movement slabs experience with temperature changes.

Wolf sources LVP from a curated selection of collections that include wide plank formats from 9 to 10 inches, commercial grade wear layers, and a range of wood look finishes suited to current design preferences across the East Bay market. We assess your specific slab condition, moisture levels, and room use before recommending a product.

Featured collection
European White Oak Engineered Hardwood
7.5" x 75" wide plank — blonde, grey, and dark brown tones
Premium wood flooring

Genuine hardwood flooring remains one of the most impactful upgrades for Bay Area homes. Buyers recognize real wood immediately, and its warmth and character are things vinyl can approximate but not fully replicate.

Wolf installs engineered hardwood rather than solid hardwood in most Bay Area applications. Engineered construction, a real hardwood veneer over a stable plywood core is significantly more stable in California's temperature and humidity variations, and it can be installed on or near grade without the moisture concerns that accompany solid wood.

Our primary recommendation is European White Oak wide plank engineered hardwood at 7.5 inches. Available in blonde, grey, and dark brown tones that align with current Bay Area design preferences. Light tones are particularly popular for their ability to make spaces feel larger and more connected to outdoor light, a consideration that matters in the East Bay's mix of older and newer home styles.

Porcelain and ceramic tile

Porcelain and ceramic tile: every room, every style

Porcelain and ceramic tile remain the standard for bathrooms, kitchens, entryways, and any room where moisture resistance, durability, and design flexibility matter more than warmth underfoot. Modern large format porcelain — 24 x 48 inches and above — creates seamless, minimal grout line floors that feel contemporary and are easier to maintain than traditional smaller tile formats.

Wolf sources tile from a curated supplier network depending on the application. Our selection covers large format porcelain flooring tiles, wood look porcelain planks for indoor and outdoor applications, designer tile options for bathroom feature walls, and natural stone including marble, travertine, and quartzite for shower surrounds and feature areas.

The critical difference between a tile installation that holds up and one that fails is substrate preparation and setting material selection. Wolf uses the correct mortar system for each tile size, applies proper grout spacing, and seals natural stone correctly. These are the steps that prevent cracked grout, loose tiles, and failed shower pans — problems that typically show up two to three years after a rushed installation.

Wood look porcelain planks

Correct substrate and setting

Why Wolf Renovations

What makes us different

  • In house installation crew
Every floor is installed by Wolf employees. No subcontractors. When something is not right, we own it and we fix it. There is no third party to blame or chase down.
  • Slab foundation specialists
Most of the East Bay's housing stock sits on concrete slab. We know how to assess slab moisture, select the right products, and install correctly for conditions that will damage a floor installed without proper preparation.
  • No skipped steps
Rushed flooring installations look fine on day one. The failure shows up two to three years later. Wolf uses correct mortar systems, proper grout spacing, and moisture barriers because that is what produces a floor that holds up.
  • Part of a full renovation
Wolf installs flooring as a standalone project and as part of kitchen remodels, bathroom renovations, and room additions. When flooring is coordinated with the rest of a project the transitions and finishes are always consistent.
  • CSLB licensed and fully insured
License #1132865. Every project carries general liability and workers compensation coverage. Verify us at cslb.ca.gov before hiring any flooring contractor.

What East Bay homeowners say

★★★★★

"I was already looking to get my kitchen renovated when I walked into their showroom. Once I walked in I knew they were the real deal. The showroom was stunning and it brought real relief being able to see what I wanted in person before purchasing. I renovated my whole kitchen and did my first floor flooring and the process was seamless. Eric and his team were informative throughout, kept me updated, and the timelines were kept. My wife's family came over for New Years and were impressed. 10/10 overall experience."

Robert B.
Pleasant Hill, CA
★★★★★

"We had LVP installed throughout the whole ground floor and the result is exactly what we wanted. The crew was clean, professional, and finished ahead of schedule. Every transition between rooms is perfectly done. We have a slab foundation and they assessed the moisture before recommending the product. That attention to detail is exactly what you want."

Carol and James M.
Concord, CA
★★★★★

"Wolf installed engineered hardwood throughout our living room and dining room as part of a larger renovation. The wood they recommended is beautiful and it was installed perfectly. Not a creak, not a gap, and the transitions to the tile in the kitchen are seamless. Genuinely outstanding craftsmanship."

Common questions

Flooring installation FAQs East Bay

For slab foundations, luxury vinyl plank is the most practical choice for most rooms. It installs directly over concrete, handles the minor moisture that slabs transmit without warping, and requires no acclimatization period. For rooms where aesthetics are the priority — living rooms and bedrooms — engineered hardwood over a moisture barrier performs well on slab. Porcelain tile is ideal for kitchens and bathrooms regardless of foundation type. Wolf assesses your specific slab condition at the site visit and recommends accordingly.
Flooring costs vary based on material, square footage, subfloor condition, and layout complexity. The range between a straightforward LVP install and a large format natural stone tile project is significant. Wolf provides a complete square footage breakdown in your proposal covering material, labor, subfloor preparation, and transitions before any work begins. Contact us for a complimentary in-home site assessment and we will give you an honest estimate for your specific project.
LVP is a synthetic product with a photographic wood look layer over a waterproof vinyl core. It is 100 percent waterproof, extremely scratch resistant, and significantly less expensive than real wood. Engineered hardwood has a genuine wood veneer on the surface — it is real wood that you see and touch — over a plywood core that gives it greater stability than solid hardwood. It looks and feels like real wood because the top layer is real wood. It costs more than LVP but less than solid hardwood, and it performs better than solid wood in California's climate. For most Bay Area homeowners the choice comes down to rooms with moisture exposure (LVP) versus rooms where genuine wood appearance matters (engineered hardwood).
Yes. Subfloor preparation is included in every flooring project. This covers removal of existing flooring, leveling uneven subfloor areas, moisture barrier installation where needed, and any structural repairs required before the new floor goes down. Skipping or rushing subfloor preparation is the most common cause of flooring failures we see when fixing other contractors' work.
