Full-service landscaping design and installation

Lush landscaped garden with pathway, East Bay California

Landscaping
projects completed

Bay Area landscaping is not like landscaping anywhere else. The combination of dry summers, wet winters, hillside lots, and increasing water restrictions creates conditions that require local knowledge and intentional plant selection. A garden that looks beautiful in spring and withers by August was not designed for this climate. Wolf designs landscapes that actually thrive here.

We handle the full scope of outdoor transformation from grading and drainage correction through planting, irrigation, hardscape integration, and lighting. Every project starts with a site assessment that evaluates sun exposure, slope, soil condition, and water access before any plant or material is selected. The result is an outdoor space that performs as well as it looks.

Landscaping projects at Wolf are coordinated with any concurrent hardscape, deck, or patio work so the outdoor environment comes together as a unified design rather than a collection of separately contracted pieces.

Project scope

What does your landscaping project look like?

Landscaping projects range from a targeted front yard refresh to a complete outdoor environment. Here are the three main project levels.

Planting and Refresh

New planting, mulching, and irrigation updates without major grading or hardscape

Best for established landscapes that need replanting with drought-tolerant species, refreshed irrigation, and updated borders.

  • Existing plant removal and soil prep
  • Drought-tolerant planting installation
  • Drip irrigation system upgrade
  • Mulch and ground cover
  • Pathway lighting

For homeowners redesigning the entire outdoor space. Landscaping designed in coordination with new patio, deck, retaining walls, and outdoor kitchen.

  • Integrated landscape and hardscape design
  • Retaining walls and slope management
  • Patio or deck surface coordination
  • Outdoor kitchen surround planting
  • Full lighting design throughout
  • Automated irrigation with smart controls
How it works

Our landscaping design process

From site assessment through final planting and irrigation startup, every step designed around your specific lot and climate conditions.

Site assessment

We evaluate sun exposure, slope, soil condition, existing drainage, and water access. No two East Bay lots are the same and the design starts with understanding yours specifically.

Design and plant selection

Custom landscape plan with plant selections appropriate for your lot's specific conditions. You review and approve the design including planting layout, hardscape elements, and lighting placement before any work begins.

Grading and prep

Existing plants removed, grading corrections made, drainage improvements installed, and soil amended as needed. This foundation work determines how well every plant performs long term.

Installation

Planting, irrigation, lighting, and any hardscape elements installed by our in house crew in a coordinated sequence that protects planted areas during hardscape work and vice versa.

Startup and walkthrough

Irrigation system tested and programmed, lighting adjusted, and full care guidance provided for every plant species installed. We walk through the completed project together before final payment is released.

Why Wolf Renovations

What makes us different

  • Designed for the Bay Area climate
We select plants that thrive in long dry summers and wet winters with minimal irrigation input once established. No generic landscaping that struggles in this specific climate.
  • Integrated with your full project
When landscaping is part of a larger outdoor project Wolf coordinates planting with hardscape, deck, and drainage work so nothing is damaged during construction and the final result is cohesive.
  • Grading and drainage expertise
East Bay hillside lots have real drainage challenges. We address root causes of standing water and slope erosion before planting rather than covering them up.
  • Transparent line item proposals
Every plant, every cubic yard of soil amendment, and every irrigation component is itemized so you know exactly what you are getting and can compare fairly with other bids.
  • CSLB licensed and fully insured
License #1132865. Every project is covered by general liability and workers compensation insurance. Verify us at cslb.ca.gov.

What Bay Area homeowners say

★★★★★

"Wolf redesigned our entire backyard as part of our patio project. The landscape design they created complemented the new patio perfectly and every plant they selected has thrived through two dry summers without any issues. The irrigation system they installed is efficient and the garden looks better in August than it did in April. That is not easy to achieve in this climate."

★★★★★

"We had serious drainage problems on a hillside lot that had flooded two previous attempts at landscaping. Wolf assessed the slope, corrected the grade, installed proper drainage, and then planted the whole thing. Two rainy seasons later the drainage works perfectly and the garden is thriving. They solved the actual problem instead of working around it."

Patricia M.

★★★★★

"We had the landscaping done alongside our deck build and the coordination was seamless. The planting around the deck base and the pathway lighting were all part of one integrated design. When everything was finished it looked like it had always been there. That kind of cohesion is only possible when one contractor handles the whole scope."

Common questions

Landscaping FAQs Bay Area and East Bay

California natives and Mediterranean species perform best in the East Bay climate. Established drought-tolerant plants including lavender, rosemary, salvia, native grasses, manzanita, and ceanothus thrive through dry summers with minimal irrigation. We avoid species that need frequent summer watering as they require ongoing input to survive and rarely look their best in Bay Area conditions. Plant selection at Wolf starts with your specific lot's sun exposure and soil type before aesthetics.
Wolf provides complete line item proposals before any work begins.
Most planting and irrigation work does not require a building permit. Grading projects that move more than a certain volume of soil, retaining walls over specified heights, and irrigation systems connected to the main water line may require permits depending on your city. Wolf evaluates permit requirements at the site assessment and handles all filings where required as part of the project scope.
Yes and this is how we prefer to work for outdoor projects. When landscaping and hardscape are designed together the result is cohesive and the construction sequence is coordinated so hardscape work does not damage planted areas and planting is timed to the completed surface. Wolf scopes outdoor projects as integrated environments rather than separately contracted pieces.
